Etat de Oaxaca – Zipolite

State of Oaxaca - Zipolite

WEATHER

To be located near Mazunte, Zipolite has the same climate as this one. Sun during the day and rain at night.

TRANSPORTS

Mazunte - Zipolite - 20 min by taxi for 100 pesos (4 euros).
The simplest solution for Sandrine and me and inexpensively since we share.
It has been a long time since I migrated so close.

Zipolite

Zipolite is a locality and a beach on the Pacific coast in the south of the state ofOaxaca to MexicoWith around 1,000 inhabitants, it grew in the mid-sixties when a few Zapotec families from the southern Oaxaca mountains settled there.

The indigenous population has been able to adapt to the hordes of hippies who, from 1970, settled on this paradisiacal shore, where getting lost in the "mañana" is not really difficult. Currently, tourism represents the main source of income for this former fishing village.

But Zipolite is best known for being one of the few nude beaches in Mexico. Personally, it's not my thing, but there is something for every taste.

Note: the proximity of the oceanic trench makes swimming dangerous because of the strong currents that push out to sea. Drownings are unfortunately too frequent there. It is therefore necessary to show the greatest caution.

Street Art

Keen on street art, I admit that I enjoyed my walks in the village.

Housing

-&nbsp Villa Escondida   -

2 different rooms in 3 days

Bungalow rented on Booking for 680 pesos (28 euros) / night. It includes: kitchen, 2 bedrooms, private bathroom, terrace with sun loungers and hammock. The whole is in the middle of a magnificent garden. Short ! We love. The catch is that we booked it for 2 nights and that at the time of extending, well, not possible. Suddenly, we had to fall back on 2 separate rooms frankly less well for a slightly higher price. Not a bargain !

If the first 2 days were really pleasant in this bungalow, the 3rd day is much less because I do not like my new room at all. A sound of flowing water is heard continuously accompanied by the smell of sewage. Overall, the room has a weird vibe. Apart from the old gentleman at the reception, adorable as anything, the rest of the staff are not welcoming. The desire to take to step away is already there.

Bars & Restos

Here are some addresses on which I had a crush

La Providencia

Gourmet Mexican restaurant with an a la carte choice so nice that it is difficult to choose. The quality of the dishes is really there. A delight ! For me this is the best place to eat in Zipolite.

L'Alquimista

Ideally located on the beach, this establishment offers a very comfortable terrace. A bit expensive menu but the dishes are good. However, avoid the burgers, which are disappointing, and opt instead for a much better mastered fish or seafood.

Encounter

Here is Sandrine, with whom I shared the room in Mazunte and with whom I share the bungalow. A 40-year-old nurse, she gave up everything a few months ago and now lives with 2 suitcases and 1 large backpack. Yoga teacher, rooted in spirituality and meditation, she enjoys sharing her knowledge about self-awareness, well-being and natural products.

Today, she walks around in search of a new home. She spent a few months in Guatemala and then in Mexico, which she appreciates less. She plans to migrate soon to another country but has not yet made her choice. To be continued …

Assessment

A quick passage because I do not particularly like the atmosphere here. I'm not hanging on. Besides, I have little to say because this place leaves me really indifferent. I tell Sandrine that I am leaving the same evening in a night collectivo. She leaves her room and decides to follow me.

Next destination: Oaxca de Juarez. 7 hours in a night collectivo for 200 pesos (8 euros).
