Lire l'articleLa Basse Californie du Sud est un état du Mexique situé dans le nord-ouest du pays. Il est bordé par l’océan Pacifique à l’ouest et la mer de Cortez à l’Est (rebaptisée golfe de Californie).
Often defined as a world apart, Baja California conceals many natural and cultural treasures. Its geographical particularity makes it a destination of choice for enjoying the coast. This 1700 km peninsula which overlooks both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific, is full of beaches more spectacular than each other, endless cactus deserts, volcanic mountains. Each year, the region welcomes the migration of gray whales which come to give birth in sheltered bays. Marine fauna of an exceptional variety has also taken up residence there. You can observe sharks, manta rays, sea lions ... which will earn it the nickname Aquarium of the world given by Jean Jacques Cousteau.
Capital: La Paz
No form or PCR test. Wearing a mask is compulsory in public places, but again, it is up to everyone. As I am keen on freedom at all levels, I feel that this country will really please me.
At the customs exit, new baggage control. My backpack does not fit. Surprising because he passed the 2 previous checks !? Object of the offense? An apple that I have been carrying around from Madrid. Forbidden here. So I carefully placed this unwanted object on the desk. It's huge when you think about it! I can come with the covid if I want, but not an apple. We can add the notion of relativity to the classification of dangerous objects ahaha.
No one in my line yeahhh. 3 cushions and 3 blankets just for me. That said, luckily, since the blanket was the size of a postage stamp, I would have had to choose between heating the top or the bottom.
The crew might have forgotten the options of smiling and friendly on the tarmac. As for the films, do not get too excited anyway because you will be entitled to announcements from the crew every 3min30.
Landing with an hour early. Cool control. The France diplomatie site specified that it was absolutely necessary to show a return ticket to get to Mexican soil and well, nothing was asked of me. I had bought what I had found cheaper, a single ticket Mexico City - Guatemala for 80 euros. No problem, the universe sent me a new destination to do in November.
3 hours of waiting at the airport. Nice discussion over a coffee with Cecilia a Peruvian.
2nd flight on time. 1h40 flight. Discussion with my neighbor Gabriel, a professional photographer. He travels the world thanks to his job; what a dream.
At this price, long live the bus. No ticket office to buy your ticket as indicated on the net but a gentleman in front of the stop is in charge of the sale. 85 pesos (3.50 euros) the way, oh yeah it's better. This service is offered by the operator Ruta Del Desierto. You can't miss them, the buses are yellow and purple with a frequency of 8-10 mins. Well, you will drive 1 hour 40 minutes instead of 40 minutes by car, but at this price, everything is great eh! The bus tracks at a speed, it's just a sketch. It feels like Malta ahaha.
No names on the bus stops, no indication on the bus but the driver can help you.
What happiness! A guitar player comes to stand right next to me to scratch 3 notes and sing out of tune. After 17 hours of travel, standing up to hold my luggage, here I am laughing with the girlfriend I have on the phone; this is also the joys of travel. Personally, I love it. I watch the landscape go by, wow! wow! and wow again !
Los Cabos is the name that designates the 2 cities of Cabo San Lucas and San José de Cabo.
The Pacific, water at 19-20 degrees with powerful waves, runs along the entire western coast of the peninsula and bypasses it to La Paz, where it gives way to the Sea of Cortez. As a result, you will find only few beaches where you can swim because the waves are too dangerous.
Uber is downright cheap here. A city run will cost you an average of 3 euros.
The arch and its sea lions. Emblematic place of Cabo San Lucas. Boats leave from the Marina and the Beach Club to get there. Possibility of being dropped off at Los Amantes beach and Divorcio beach. A wonder. Guaranteed wow effect! Even more at sunset when the stone is adorned with an orange color. This place is majestic. To redo without counting. The marina, a lively and luxurious place. Cerro de la Z offers 360 degree views of Cabo San Lucas.
Cabo San Lucas is a very americanized and expensive city (for Mexico). Festive place par excellence, endowed with all kinds of entertainment, it offers beautiful panoramas, many activities, a large number of very good restaurants; enough to satisfy a vacation filled with memories.
A typical Mexican town, colonial and very artistic. The atmosphere is calmer there than in Cabo San Lucas. Lots of art galleries. Every Thursday evening, in the large central square, artists come to exhibit their works.
Not far away, you will find an oasis and a beach where the turtles come to lay their eggs in November or September, I don't remember.
A picturesque village dedicated to fishing and agriculture, Todos Santos was recognized in 2006 as Magic Village. Art also occupies an important place in this small town where one meets many galleries with works of recognized artists. The California hotel is one of the emblematic buildings of the city, it would have inspired the legendary song of the group Eagles. Between us, it's completely wrong but it makes tourism work ahaha. To the south, there are beaches bathed by the Pacific Ocean, on which water sports such as surfing are practiced.
Booked on Airbnb, I have a room in an apartment that I share with Eduardo the owner. Quiet, fully equipped and including a terrace on which I love to have breakfast, many birds come there. A guard monitors the residence 24 hours a day. Swimming pool and garden are admirably maintained. The icing on the cake: climb Mount Cerro in the evening to watch the sunset. Very good value for money.
I love this place. The best ceviche I have eaten. Excellent cocktails. A cool and trendy place. An ultra colorful decor. A small hidden back garden. Top service. And all this for a reasonable price. To do absolutely !
Clearly it's expensive but by far the tastiest tacos I've eaten. A must: the Pastor, to die for. Very good cocktails. Live music atmosphere in a creatively decorated setting. Top !
Planted along the main road that leads to La Paz, this restaurant offers a sublime view of the Californian Mexican desert. Varied menu, irresistible tacos con machaca (mexican shredded beef), friendly service. Inexpensive and generous. We settle in and have a hard time leaving.
Place that does not look like much but which is always full. Well-known in the city because everything is famous, homemade and really cheap.
Excellent brewery. A little craft beer doesn't hurt. Panoramic view. Nice!
Richard and Clayton met on the airport bus. As we got off at the same stop, we had lunch together. Both are from Chicago. Richard is a DJ and travels a lot for his job. History buff, gifted in geography, he knows a thing or two about France. Clayton is an IT developer. Her voice is very special. He could loan it for cartoon characters. I told him about it, I hope he will. After a week on the Riviera Maya, they come to spend 5 days with 2 girlfriends in an Airbnb reserved for the occasion. Exchange of numbers around tacos drizzled with margaritas. At 11 am you tell me? Yes yes because my body does not know that it is morning, for him it is 7 p.m., aperitif time. lol
Next day, meet the rest of the team. Ankober, Ethiopian, medical assistant, the model of the group, her legs are endless, intelligent and very soft.
Genova, Kenyan, singer and entertainer, the most exuberant of the group. Endowed with rare energy, speaks to everyone, I have never met someone so alive. Super funny! Both live in Seattle.
Obviously, Americans can travel without problem. The only obligation is to carry out a PCR test for the return to the USA. Test they can perform at the airport with results in 30 mins. Nothing to say.
This bunch of merry fellows made me spend 5 wonderful days. I love them. It is clear that I will miss them.
Eduardo, owner of the Airbnb that I rent. We share the apartment. Very kind, with little care for me. He showed me around San José, took me for a drink with friends of his.
He concocted a day trip to Todos Los Santos, La Paz, Balandra beach. A day full of discoveries accompanied by 2 Mexican women, Angeles, videographer and her Mama. Both adorable.
Gabriella, Mexican came to spend the weekend in Cabo San Lucas. She works in the quality department at Danone. Chance brings her to the same Airbnb as me. Let's go for a nice weekend.
In Mexico, we do not celebrate Halloween but the Day of the Dead. El Dia de los Muertos is held annually between October 31 and November 2. Listed as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by Unesco, the Day of the Dead is the most celebrated custom in Mexico. The locals thus celebrate the return of loved ones who have died on earth by making many offerings and taking part in various festivities. During the Day of the Dead, Mexicans indeed parade in the street and meditate in cemeteries in a festive atmosphere. Moreover, the film Coco from Pixar studios takes the viewer to the heart of el dia de los muertos.
A start up in Mexico at top speed. My first weeks will have been colorful; as is this country. I took full eyes and full of taste buds. I have made incredible encounters. I am a fan, I am high.
The discovery day with Eduardo in La Paz left me with a taste of too little, I'm dying to see more.
So, I migrate there.
I tackle the ascent of the peninsula… by bus.
